In a recent interview, Mr. Mochoboroane explained that the meeting is part of efforts to find sustainable solutions to recurring issues. Reports in recent months indicate that patients from Lesotho have faced delays, administrative barriers, and even refusals when attempting to access health services in South Africa.
The discussions will focus on strengthening cross-border health cooperation. Mr. Mochoboroane emphasized the importance of implementing existing agreements between the two countries. He highlighted the need to ensure that Basotho are not denied critical health services when required.
The meeting will also explore practical measures to improve patient experiences, reduce administrative delays, and enhance communication between health facilities on both sides of the border. Mr. Mochoboroane stressed that Lesotho is committed to protecting the rights of its citizens to receive timely and adequate medical care.
Strengthening collaboration with South Africa is expected to benefit both countries by improving healthcare access, streamlining cross-border procedures, and promoting regional health security. The meeting reflects Lesotho’s proactive approach to addressing healthcare challenges and safeguarding the wellbeing of its citizens.
By holding this high-level dialogue, Lesotho aims to reinforce its commitment to cross-border healthcare partnerships and ensure that Basotho can access essential medical services without unnecessary obstacles.
