Quthing Small Stock Farmers Showcase Hybrid Breeds at District Exhibition

Small stock farmers from across Quthing gathered at the Moyeni wool-shed on Tuesday for the district small stock show, where they proudly exhibited their hybrid sheep and goats. The event, hosted by the Quthing Wool and Mohair Growers Association (QWMGA), was organized as a competitive platform to select outstanding animals that will represent the district at a national show in Maseru.
Farmers from various wool-sheds brought forward their best breeds, demonstrating the results of their dedication to improving livestock quality. The show not only provided an opportunity for healthy competition but also encouraged knowledge-sharing and community engagement among small stock farmers.
Speaking at the event, the Acting Director of Field Services, Mr. Mabusetsa Makau, praised the farmers for their unwavering commitment to participating in the exhibition despite unfavorable weather conditions. He noted significant improvements in the quality of animals displayed this year compared to previous events.
“I am impressed by the noticeable progress in hybrid sheep and goat breeding,” said Mr. Makau. “The animals we’ve seen here today are a clear reflection of the hard work and resilience of our farmers.”
He also congratulated the winners of the competition and encouraged those who did not win to continue striving for excellence by improving their breeds. Mr. Makau emphasized the importance of such shows in enhancing livestock standards and preparing farmers to meet both local and international market demands.
The selected winners from the Quthing district will proceed to showcase their livestock at the upcoming two-day national event in Maseru, where they will compete with other top breeders from around the country.
