LMPS and Local Councils Receive Vehicles from Government to Enhance Service Delivery

The Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) and local councils have received a total of 38 vehicles from the government in a ceremony held on Friday in Maseru. This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the effectiveness of law enforcement and local governance across the country.

Out of the 38 vehicles, 21 are designated for the LMPS to bolster their efforts in combating stock theft, a significant concern in rural areas. Additionally, 11 vehicles will be used to address criminal activities within local communities, improving police visibility and response times. One mini bus and three taxis will also be allocated to the police for operational purposes. The remaining two vehicles will be used by firefighters, while the other 24 will be distributed among the district councils to improve service delivery at the local government level.

Deputy Prime Minister, Justice Nthomeng Majara, who represented the Prime Minister during the handover, emphasized the importance of the vehicle distribution in fulfilling the government’s commitment to the people. “When the government closed Parliament last year, we made a promise to the nation to prioritize their safety and well-being. This distribution of vehicles is the first step in fulfilling that promise, particularly in the fight against crime,” said Majara.

The vehicles are expected to greatly enhance the capabilities of the LMPS and local councils, allowing them to respond more effectively to emergencies, criminal activities, and community needs. By improving mobility, these vehicles will help ensure that law enforcement and local governance structures can better serve the public and maintain safety across Lesotho.

The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted that this move aligns with the government’s broader vision to improve infrastructure and public services, making communities safer and more resilient.

This distribution of vehicles marks a significant step toward ensuring the government meets its promises to the people, fostering a stronger, more responsive public service for the benefit of all citizens.
