DIFA Coordinator Applauds IEC and DPE for Youth Soccer Tournaments

The District Football Association (DIFA) Regional Coordinator, Motlalepula Pakela, has praised the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and the Development for Peace Education (DPE) for organizing soccer tournaments aimed at encouraging youth to re-register with the electoral commission. The initiative, supported by the European Union, seeks to engage young people in voter registration while fostering community development.

Speaking in an interview following soccer tournaments held in Mpharane, Pakela expressed his gratitude to the organizers, noting that the events have far-reaching benefits beyond the soccer pitch. “These tournaments are not only about entertainment but also about uniting communities, creating harmonious relationships, and combating criminal activities,” he said.

Pakela emphasized the importance of holding such events regularly, as they serve as powerful tools for community building and youth empowerment. He also highlighted the role of sports in inspiring positive behavior among young people, giving them a sense of purpose and belonging.

The tournaments drew large crowds and sparked enthusiasm among the youth, many of whom were encouraged to re-register with the IEC. This aligns with the broader goal of increasing youth participation in electoral processes, ensuring their voices are heard in shaping the country’s future.

Pakela further commended the collaboration between the IEC, DPE, and the European Union, urging more stakeholders to support similar initiatives in the future. He noted that combining sports with civic education creates a unique platform for fostering active citizenship and community well-being.

As the tournaments continue to gain momentum, there is optimism that they will leave a lasting impact on youth engagement, both on and off the field.
