US Embassy Charge d’Affaires Visits Millennium Challenge Account Lesotho

On Monday, Mr. Thomas Hines, the newly appointed Charge d’Affaires of the United States Embassy, visited the leadership and staff of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) Lesotho Compact II in Maseru. This visit provided an opportunity for MCA management to present an overview of their progress in implementing the Health and Horticulture compact, a significant initiative expected to span five years in the country.

In her welcome remarks, Mrs. ‘Mannana Phalatse, the Chief Executive Officer of the Millennium Challenge Account, highlighted the importance of the horticulture project in supporting the government of Lesotho. She explained that this initiative focuses on strengthening health systems and will include market-driven irrigated horticulture projects. Additionally, it aims to enhance the business environment through various technical assistance projects.

The Health and Horticulture compact is designed to improve agricultural practices and health outcomes in Lesotho. By promoting sustainable horticultural practices, the project seeks to increase food security and nutrition while also addressing public health challenges.
