Lesotho Cabinet Reshuffle Announced as King Letsie III Approves Major Government Changes

The Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho has announced a significant Cabinet reshuffle following the approval of His Majesty King Letsie III. The Office of the Government Secretary confirmed that the changes take effect from 29 April 2026 after advice from the Right Honourable Prime Minister. The reshuffle affects multiple ministries and includes both removals and new appointments. It also introduces new ministerial portfolios aimed at strengthening governance and improving service delivery. The announcement has been formalised through Legal Notice No. 39, 40 and 41 of 2026, marking an important moment in the country’s executive administration.
Several key changes have been made to the Cabinet structure, including the release of two ministers from their positions. Honourable Mokhethi Shelile and Honourable Letsema Adontsi have been officially removed from Cabinet. Other ministers have been reassigned to new portfolios as part of the broader restructuring. Honourable Selibe Mochoboroane moves from the Ministry of Health to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition. Honourable Lebona Lephema shifts from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Business Development. Honourable Lejone Mpotjoane moves from Foreign Affairs and International Relations to lead the newly established Ministry of Energy and Mining.
Further adjustments continue across several strategic ministries, reflecting a wider redistribution of responsibilities. Honourable Thabo Mofosi transitions from Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Honourable Limpho Tau moves from the Prime Minister’s Office to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations. These changes are intended to align leadership skills with national priorities across different sectors. The reshuffle also strengthens key service delivery areas such as health, security and local governance. Honourable ’Mamokete Ntšekhe has been appointed as Minister in the Ministry of Health. Honourable Voeswa Tsheka takes up a new role in the newly established Ministry of Home Affairs and Police. Honourable ’Makatleho Motsoasele is appointed to serve in the Prime Minister’s Office.
One of the notable developments in the announcement involves Honourable Nkhethoa Seetsa. He was appointed to the newly established Ministry of Local Government and Chieftainship. However, he has formally informed His Majesty that he will decline the appointment. As a result, he will not be sworn in as originally scheduled. The government has stated that the necessary legal processes will be followed to formalise this decision. This development adds a unique element to the reshuffle as it highlights the procedural steps required in ministerial appointments and acceptances.
A swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed ministers is scheduled to take place on 30 April 2026 at the Royal Palace. The ceremony will proceed without Honourable Nkhethoa Seetsa following his decision to decline the position. The event is expected to formally confirm the new Cabinet structure and allow ministers to assume their responsibilities. These changes reflect a strategic effort to strengthen governance across key sectors of the economy and public administration. The reshuffle, communicated through the official legal notices, signals a renewed direction for government operations under the current administration.
