Basotho Students Graduate from Digital Schools Programme and Prepare for Employment in UAE

Minister of Education and Training, Professor Ntoi Rapapa, held a press conference in Maseru to officially bid farewell to Basotho students who completed the Digital Schools programme and secured employment opportunities in the United Arab Emirates. The programme is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to equip youth with in-demand digital skills and prepare them for both local and international labour markets. Addressing the students, Professor Rapapa congratulated them for successfully completing their training and commended their dedication and hard work throughout the programme.
A total of 300 students enrolled in the Digital Schools initiative, with 145 completing the training successfully. From this pool, 40 students were shortlisted for interviews, and 18 were ultimately selected for employment in the UAE. The Minister highlighted that the programme equips participants with essential skills required in modern workplaces, including technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and digital literacy. These skills position Basotho youth to compete effectively in global labour markets while also contributing to national development.
Professor Rapapa encouraged the departing students to uphold discipline, professionalism, and integrity as they begin their international assignments. He emphasized that they are ambassadors of Lesotho and that their conduct abroad reflects on the country’s reputation. The Minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding skills development programmes that empower youth and strengthen employability.
The Digital Schools programme is part of a broader strategy to bridge the skills gap and address unemployment among young Basotho. By providing practical training, mentorship, and employment pathways, the initiative ensures that students gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. The successful selection of students for positions in the UAE demonstrates the programme’s effectiveness in preparing youth for competitive roles in the global digital economy.
Professor Rapapa concluded by urging the students to make the most of the opportunities ahead and to maintain strong ties with the government and local communities. The programme underscores Lesotho’s focus on youth empowerment, skills development, and international collaboration, creating pathways for Basotho to thrive both at home and abroad.
