Department of Education Reviews 2025 Exam Results to Improve Performance in Mokhotlong

The Department of Education and Training has launched a series of meetings with teachers and school board members across Mokhotlong district. The initiative aims to analyse the 2025 examination results for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) and the Lesotho General Certificate in Secondary Education (LGCSE) taken by Grade 7 and Grade 11 learners, respectively. The meetings are part of a structured approach to identify challenges in the education system and find practical solutions to improve learner performance.
District Education Manager, Mr. Nts’upuoa Lephoto, explained that participants in the meetings will review the exam results in detail, discussing areas where learners struggled and strategies to address them. The process is designed to create room for improvement and ensure future success in both primary and secondary education levels. According to a 10-day plan developed by the department, the meetings began on Tuesday with primary school teachers and school boards at the Linakaneng Centre. Mokhotlong district has ten education centres, including Mabuleng, St. Martins, Mateanong, Mokhotlong, Senqu, Moremoholo, Mapholaneng, Maboloka, Linakaneng, and St. James.
Mr. Lephoto noted that after completing sessions with primary school teachers, similar meetings with high school teachers will follow. Mokhotlong ranked ninth out of ten districts nationally in the 2025 LGCSE results, highlighting the need for targeted interventions. The district has 106 primary schools and 16 high schools, making these meetings critical for understanding performance trends and implementing strategies to support both learners and educators. The Department of Education aims to use these discussions to strengthen teaching methods, enhance student outcomes, and raise the overall performance of Mokhotlong’s schools.
