Lesotho Participates in Extraordinary SADC Summit on Madagascar Crisis

On December 17, 2025, Lesotho took part in the Extraordinary Virtual Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) convened to address the political and security situation in the Republic of Madagascar.

The Kingdom was represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Honourable Lejone Mpotjoane, acting on behalf of the Right Honourable Prime Minister, Mr Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane. He was accompanied by senior government officials.

During the summit, SADC leaders reviewed the report of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation. They reaffirmed their commitment to restoring peace, stability, and democratic governance in Madagascar. Leaders also discussed regional security developments and strategies to prevent further instability.

Lesotho’s participation underscores its active role in regional diplomacy and commitment to supporting peace and security in Southern Africa. The Kingdom continues to align with SADC’s collective efforts to address political crises and promote stability in the region.
