Lesotho Highlights Digital Progress and Future Opportunities at WSIS+20

On December 16, 2025, Honourable Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Nthati Moorosi, delivered Lesotho’s National Statement at the United Nations General Assembly during the World Summit on Information Society Plus 20 (WSIS+20) in New York.
In her address, Minister Moorosi expressed gratitude to the co-facilitators of the WSIS+20 review and reaffirmed Lesotho’s commitment to the Geneva Declaration and the Tunis Agenda, which continue to guide global digital development. She emphasized her ministry’s recognition of progress in closing digital gaps and empowering communities through information and communication technologies.
Honourable Moorosi confirmed Lesotho’s endorsement of the WSIS+20 Review Outcome Document. She highlighted the ongoing need to address persistent digital divides, particularly affecting least developed countries and marginalized groups. The Minister stressed that achieving a people-centered Information Society requires targeted action and international cooperation.
Looking ahead, Lesotho aims to leverage its high-altitude location, natural serenity, and moderate climate to attract investments in energy and data center projects. These initiatives are expected to strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure and support sustainable economic growth.
Concluding her remarks, Minister Moorosi called on all Member States to adopt a balanced approach to digital development, ensuring progress is inclusive, secure, and responsive to the needs of all communities.
Lesotho’s participation at WSIS+20 demonstrates its proactive stance on digital transformation, regional integration, and the creation of opportunities that harness technology for social and economic advancement.
