SENAKANGOELI Launched as New Name for Government Performance Management System in Landmark Public Service Reform

The Government has officially introduced SENAKANGOELI as the new name for its Performance Management System in a move aimed at strengthening public service delivery. The launch was led by the Minister of Public Service, Honourable Moeketsi Motšoane, who presented the initiative as a key step in modernising government operations. The new name replaces the previous identity of the system and brings a fresh focus on accountability and efficiency. It also reflects a broader effort to build a public service culture that is more responsive to citizens’ needs. The announcement marks an important moment in ongoing reforms within the public sector. It signals a shift toward stronger performance tracking and improved service standards.
The name SENAKANGOELI emerged through a national competition designed to give the Performance Management System a distinct Sesotho identity. The initiative encouraged public servants and citizens to contribute ideas that reflect local language and cultural values. The winning entry was submitted by Mr. Motebang Lebusa from the Ministry of Environment, who was recognised for his contribution to the rebranding effort. The selection process highlighted the importance of inclusivity and participation in government communication strategies. It also aimed to ensure that the system is not only functional but also culturally meaningful to Basotho. The new name now stands as a symbol of ownership and pride within the public administration space.
During the official launch, Minister Moeketsi Motšoane emphasised that SENAKANGOELI represents more than just a name change. He explained that it reflects the government’s commitment to improving accountability across all levels of the public service. He also highlighted the importance of strengthening performance management systems to ensure that public officers deliver quality services consistently. According to the Minister, the launch is a milestone in promoting efficiency and excellence in government operations. He further stated that public servants are expected to remain focused and committed to service delivery that meets the needs of citizens. The message reinforced the government’s broader agenda of improving governance and institutional performance.
The introduction of SENAKANGOELI sets a new direction for how performance management will be understood and applied within the public service. It establishes a stronger identity for a system that plays a central role in tracking productivity and service outcomes. The initiative is expected to encourage greater responsibility among public officers while improving overall service delivery standards. It also supports efforts to build trust between government institutions and the public through clearer accountability mechanisms. With its official launch, SENAKANGOELI becomes a key part of the government’s reform strategy focused on efficiency and results.
