Minister Nthati Moorosi Combines Birthday Celebrations With Major Community Support and Housing Donation

Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Honourable Nthati Moorosi, marked her 50th birthday by combining personal celebration with large-scale community outreach and support initiatives aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable people. The event brought together elderly residents, people living with disabilities, learners from Lesia Combined School, and members of the wider community in Maseru. Instead of a traditional celebration, the Minister focused on practical assistance that directly addressed urgent social needs across different groups. Donations included school shoes, wheelchairs, clothing, and crutches, all aimed at restoring dignity and improving daily living conditions. The initiative highlighted a strong commitment to service and community upliftment during a significant personal milestone.
As part of the same programme, Minister Moorosi also donated a fully furnished five-room house to a vulnerable family in Matamong, Ha Thetsane. The family had been living in a rented single room under difficult circumstances and had recently experienced a traumatic loss after their daughter and sister was found dead and mutilated following her disappearance. The new house provided immediate relief by offering safe and stable shelter, replacing insecurity with dignity and privacy. The handover demonstrated a practical response to housing vulnerability and showed how targeted interventions can restore stability in moments of crisis. It also reflected the importance of housing as a foundation for emotional recovery and long-term family resilience.
The outreach programme extended beyond material donations and included strong messages of encouragement and social responsibility. Minister Moorosi acknowledged all individuals and partners who contributed to making the donations possible and encouraged Basotho to continue supporting those in need. She emphasized that community support plays a critical role in addressing inequality and improving living conditions for disadvantaged households. Her message focused on consistent giving as a way to strengthen solidarity and reduce hardship within society. The Minister also highlighted that sustainable change requires both government involvement and active participation from citizens.
The event was attended by several prominent leaders who praised the Minister’s commitment to public service and community development. Minister of Social Development Mr. Pitso Lesaoana described her as a unifying figure with a strong ability to bring people together around meaningful causes. The Mayor of Maseru, Mr. Relebohile Sechache, acknowledged her ambition and encouraged her to continue contributing to national development and improving lives across the country. Former Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Mothetjoa Metsing, along with other ministers and Members of Parliament, also attended the celebration, adding national significance to the occasion. Their presence reflected broad recognition of the impact of the outreach programme.
The combined birthday celebration and community intervention demonstrated a leadership approach centered on service, compassion, and practical impact. By providing essential items to vulnerable groups and a fully furnished home to a struggling family, Minister Moorosi turned a personal milestone into an opportunity for direct social support. The initiative addressed immediate needs while also reinforcing the importance of dignity, stability, and community care. It showed how leadership actions can influence both individual lives and broader community well-being. The event ultimately stood as a strong example of how targeted assistance can create meaningful change and strengthen social cohesion within communities.
