King Letsie III Launches Queen’s Baton Relay for 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

On Thursday, 2nd October 2025, His Majesty King Letsie III officially launched the Queen’s Baton Relay at the Royal Palace, initiating the countdown to the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The ceremony highlighted Lesotho’s participation and commitment to the international sporting event.

His Majesty received the Baton from the British High Commissioner to the Kingdom of Lesotho, Her Excellency Ms. Martine Sobey. The Baton was then handed to the Vice President of the Lesotho Commonwealth Games Association, before being passed to Lesotho’s Commonwealth gold medalist, Mr. Thabiso Moqhali. This symbolic act represented unity, sporting excellence, and the nation’s readiness to contribute to the Commonwealth Games.

The launch event was attended by key officials, including the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Mantiti Khabo, and the Director of Sports, Mr. Thabo Tsiki, among others. Their presence reinforced the importance of sports development in Lesotho and the country’s commitment to nurturing athletes who can compete at an international level.
