ISUZU Strengthens Footprint in Lesotho as It Unveils Future-Focused Strategy for Southern Africa

Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSAf) has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Southern Africa, including Lesotho, as it unveiled a renewed corporate purpose and future-focused strategy during its 2026 IMSAf Address held at its Struandale manufacturing plant in Gqeberha.

The strategy places renewed emphasis on regional growth, with the continued expansion of the ISUZU dealer network into Lesotho positioning the Mountain Kingdom as an increasingly important market within the brand’s Southern African footprint. The move forms part of ISUZU’s broader ambition to deliver reliable, future-ready mobility solutions that support economic development, job creation and improved transport efficiency across the region.

Anchored by ISUZU’s newly introduced corporate philosophy, “Moving the World – For You,” the strategy articulates the company’s purpose and long-term intent. According to IMSAf President and Chief Executive Officer Billy Tom, the philosophy goes beyond branding and speaks directly to ISUZU’s role in enabling progress. “Moving the World – For You is not a slogan; it is our philosophy. We exist to help move people, goods and communities forward, and to do so in a way that creates lasting value,” he said.

As ISUZU continues to strengthen its presence beyond South Africa’s borders, Lesotho forms part of a targeted regional expansion strategy focused on deeper dealer coverage, improved aftersales support and access to vehicles built for African operating conditions. For Lesotho’s construction, mining, agriculture and public-sector transport sectors, ISUZU’s reputation for durability and reliability remains central to its value proposition, with the expanded dealer presence expected to improve customer access to sales, servicing and parts support.

“Our strength has always been consistency, continuity and reliability,” said Craig Uren, Executive Vice President: Revenue Generation at Isuzu Motors South Africa. “Customers across Southern Africa choose ISUZU because they know exactly what to expect: vehicles that are dependable, durable and built for real-world African conditions. What has evolved is how we continue to innovate on that foundation.”

ISUZU’s growing confidence in regional markets such as Lesotho is supported by solid performance. In 2025, IMSAf retailed just over 26,000 vehicles locally, representing a 12.2% increase on the previous year, while exports to Rest of Africa markets grew by 4.5% to 5,371 units. The company retained its position as South Africa’s number one truck brand in the combined Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle segments for the 13th consecutive year, supported by strong growth in the Heavy Commercial Vehicle category. Passenger vehicle performance also remained robust, with ISUZU D-MAX sales increasing by 11.7% and MU-X volumes rising by 45.4%.

These results reinforce ISUZU’s role as a regional manufacturing and export hub supplying neighbouring markets, including Lesotho, with vehicles engineered for reliability and long-term value. IMSAf’s Eastern Cape manufacturing operations continue to play a key role in supporting jobs, skills development and supplier growth, strengthening the regional automotive value chain.

A notable recent investment includes the establishment of a R750 million VSL Manufacturing facility in Struandale, adjacent to the IMSAf assembly plant. Opened in late 2025, the facility produces critical body components for the ISUZU D-MAX, expanding local technical capability while creating skilled employment and reinforcing the Eastern Cape’s position as a key automotive manufacturing hub.

Alongside manufacturing investment, IMSAf continues to prioritise people development, dealer growth and community upliftment. The company has maintained its Top Employer status for four consecutive years and supports community initiatives focused on water security, education and environmental conservation, while embedding sustainability practices aligned with the ISUZU Environmental Vision 2050.

Looking ahead to 2026, IMSAf confirmed the upcoming launch of the new ISUZU D-MAX and a next-generation truck range, both expected to strengthen the brand’s offering across Southern Africa. For Lesotho, these developments signal continued access to dependable transport solutions that support trade, mobility and economic growth.

“As we introduce new products and technologies, our commitment remains unchanged,” Uren said. “To deliver solutions our customers can trust, today and into the future.”
