Official Handover of Operational Vehicles and Motorcycles Strengthens Security and Local Government Services

Prime Minister Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane has handed over 29 vehicles and six motorcycles to key security agencies at the Police Training College. The handover forms part of government efforts to strengthen safety, improve response times, and enhance service delivery across the country.
Of the total fleet, six vehicles and six motorcycles were allocated to the Lesotho Mounted Police Service. The National Security Service received 23 vehicles to support intelligence led operations and field work. The distribution targets operational gaps that limit effective policing and national security work.
Addressing officials, the Prime Minister said the vehicles are public assets meant to serve the nation, not individual interests. He stressed that government remains committed to equipping sectors with relevant tools so they can perform their duties without hindrance. He said proper equipment directly affects results on the ground.
The Prime Minister raised concern over the rising crime rate, describing it as alarming. He urged security agencies to use intelligence to enhance safety and protect communities. He emphasized accountability and integrity in public service.
He also cited a recent case with concern, where a civil servant was arrested by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences after being found selling government services. He described such acts as illegal and harmful, saying they deny Basotho their right to services and must be stopped decisively.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Mr. Limpho Tau said both LMPS and NSS will benefit from the new vehicles and motorcycles through faster and more efficient service delivery. He added that the initiative follows a similar handover last year where District Administrators received vehicles. He said government hopes the long standing complaints about service delays will now reduce.
Speaking on behalf of both security agencies, Commissioner of Police Borotho Matsoso expressed gratitude for the support. He appealed to officers to handle the vehicles with care and responsibility. He assured the Prime Minister and the nation that the agencies will work tirelessly to protect citizens, their livelihoods, and their property.
The handover ceremony was attended by the Minister of Local Government, Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police Mr. Lebona Lephema, other Cabinet Ministers, and senior government officials. The event marked a key step in strengthening operational capacity and restoring public confidence in national security services.
