Lesotho Hosts Retired Major General Ferdinand Safari to Strengthen Child Protection in Africa

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations of Lesotho hosted Retired Major General Ferdinand Safari, Director of The Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security, for a courtesy visit at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Lesotho in Addis Ababa. The meeting focused on advancing Africa’s collective response to protecting children in conflict and fragile settings.

Discussions centered on integrated approaches that link child protection, peace, and security. As Vice Chair of the Africa Platform on Children Affected by Armed Conflicts (APCAAC), H.E. Ambassador Ntsiuoa Sekete reaffirmed Lesotho’s strong commitment to promoting the rights, welfare, and protection of African children, particularly those living in conflict-affected areas.

During the visit, both leaders explored opportunities for collaboration between the Dallaire Institute, African Union mechanisms, and continental initiatives. The discussions emphasized translating policy frameworks into practical interventions that ensure tangible protection and long-term impact for Africa’s children.

The engagement reflects Lesotho’s proactive role in regional child protection efforts, strengthening partnerships that aim to safeguard vulnerable children, promote peace, and foster sustainable development across the continent.
