Ministry of Public Works and Transport Reviews Road Restoration in Quthing

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, accompanied by the Director General of the Roads Directorate, visited Quthing yesterday to assess progress on the restoration of the road linking Quthing and Qacha’s Nek. The visit aimed to ensure the resumption of safe and efficient travel for the public following recent damages caused by heavy rains.
Officials confirmed that the bypass, where the bridge had been washed away, has now been reopened for vehicles. This development allows residents and commuters to continue their journeys without major disruptions while reconstruction plans move forward.
Preparations for the construction of a new bridge are already underway. Authorities expect that work will begin within ten days, following the completion of planning and allocation processes. The Ministry emphasized that the project will prioritize quality and safety to prevent future disruptions.
The visit highlights the government’s commitment to maintaining critical transport infrastructure and ensuring the smooth movement of people and goods. Local communities have welcomed the progress, noting that the restored access supports trade, daily commutes, and emergency services.
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport reiterated that continued monitoring and prompt intervention remain key to safeguarding roads and bridges against the impact of adverse weather, ensuring resilience and connectivity across Lesotho.
