Deputy Prime Minister Justice Nthomeng Majara said the conference united key voices to reinforce a national commitment to an inclusive and peaceful future. She said justice is essential for progress and cannot be treated as optional.
The conference placed justice, the rule of law and democracy at the center of sustainable peace. Delegates agreed that equal access to justice, non discrimination and reconciliation must guide the country’s peace building framework. The message from Basotho participants was clear. Development must be shaped by peace, unity and long term solutions.
Stakeholders were encouraged to advance justice initiatives through legal reform and stronger cooperation among institutions. Minister of Law Richard Ramoeletsi highlighted the need to acknowledge the nation’s difficult past. He said Lesotho must confront trauma caused by political unrest and instability. This step is part of a broader journey toward reconciliation and accountability.
Speakers stressed that transitional justice must remain transparent and inclusive. They said the process should support nation building and shape future development. The Minister assured participants that Lesotho’s legal framework is designed to support reconciliation and deliver justice for survivors and victims.
The conference outlined the main pillars of transitional justice. These include truth seeking, reparations, accountability and institutional reform. Speakers said the country must balance the need for justice with the need for peace. They also highlighted that victims’ voices must guide every stage of the process.
Lesotho’s 2025 conference showed a renewed commitment to justice, unity and stability. The outcomes point to a stronger foundation for peace and a clear path toward a more inclusive future.
