The District Librarian, Mr. Bonang Thakanyane, has called on the Quthing community in Liphakoe to take advantage of the public library located at Upper Moyeni to enhance learning and cognitive growth.
Speaking to the Agency, Mr. Thakanyane noted that the library, fully operational since early July, has seen minimal engagement. Over a three-week period, only one individual spent a few hours reading, indicating significant underutilization.
He emphasised that the library offers more than books. It provides a safe, quiet, and free space for people of all ages to study, access reliable information, join reading clubs, obtain free textbooks, or simply enjoy a space for reflection and thinking.
Mr. Thakanyane highlighted the broader benefits of reading at the library. Access to information expands knowledge, improves vocabulary, stimulates mental function, and promotes intellectual growth. Regular use of the library can also reduce stress and support overall mental well-being.
He urged community members to view the public library as a vital resource for education, literacy, and social connection. Making use of the facility can strengthen research skills, foster lifelong learning, and contribute to personal and community development.
The Upper Moyeni Public Library stands ready to serve the Quthing community, offering tools and opportunities that can positively impact learning and cognitive growth for all.
