Minister Moteane Presents Contractor for Seboche Road Construction in Butha-Buthe

The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Hon. Matjato Moteane, announced the contractor responsible for building the long-awaited Seboche road connecting Ha Paramente and Khukhune in the Butha-Buthe district. The announcement took place during a public gathering held yesterday, marking an important step in improving road infrastructure and accessibility in the region.
The event drew strong attendance from both government officials and residents. Among the dignitaries were the Minister of International Affairs, Candidate No. 2, the Governor of Butha-Buthe District, and representatives from the Roads Directorate. Local chiefs, community leaders, and residents from nearby villages also participated, reflecting the community’s strong interest in the project.
Hon. Moteane emphasized that the construction of the Seboche road is a government priority aimed at promoting regional development. He said the project will not only improve mobility but also stimulate local economic activity by connecting rural areas with essential services and markets.
He highlighted that the new road will ease transport challenges for farmers and traders who rely on Seboche as a key route for moving goods. The improved road network will also provide better access to healthcare facilities, schools, and business centers within the district.
The Minister encouraged residents to support and cooperate with the contractor throughout the construction period. He stressed that community collaboration is critical for the project’s timely completion and for maintaining peace and order during the construction process.
The Governor of Butha-Buthe welcomed the project, noting that the poor state of the current road has long hindered economic growth in the area. He said the new road represents a significant investment in the district’s future and will create short-term employment opportunities for local residents.
Officials from the Roads Directorate confirmed that all necessary technical assessments and environmental studies had been completed. The contractor is expected to begin work immediately, with site preparation and machinery mobilization already underway.
Community members expressed appreciation for the government’s commitment to improving local infrastructure. Many said the project would transform daily life by reducing travel time, improving access to services, and opening new economic opportunities for small businesses.
The Seboche road project forms part of a broader national initiative to modernize road infrastructure in rural Lesotho. The Ministry of Public Works and Transport continues to prioritize rural connectivity as a driver of social and economic development. Once completed, the new Seboche road will provide a safer and more reliable transport link between Ha Paramente and Khukhune, serving as a vital corridor for trade and movement within the Butha-Buthe district.
