Lesotho Minister of Education Highlights Student Effort Ahead of Final Examinations

Maseru, 7 October 2025 – The Minister of Education and Training, Hon. Mohlophehi Rapapa, addressed journalists and media at the Education Department in Maseru today at 8:00 am, underlining the significance of final examinations as a reflection of dedication, sacrifice, and effort by both students and teachers.
Minister Rapapa confirmed that this year, 34,780 students are registered to sit for the seventh-grade examinations. Of these, 15,700 students will proceed to take the Lesotho General Certificate of Secondary Education (LGCSE) exams.
For students in the advanced stream, 40 candidates will write the Lesotho Advanced Certificate (LAC) examinations, focusing on Mathematics and Science subjects. The Minister emphasized the importance of these exams in assessing knowledge and readiness for higher education and future careers.
During the briefing, Minister Rapapa commended the Examination Council of Lesotho for ensuring quality education and effective administration of national exams. He also expressed gratitude to the Council’s financial partners for their support, which has contributed to the smooth execution of the examination process.
The Minister concluded by acknowledging the National University of Lesotho for its role in Quality Assurance and extended thanks to the University of Stellenbosch for their continued collaboration in supporting educational standards.
The remarks highlight Lesotho’s commitment to maintaining high-quality education and ensuring that students are adequately prepared to meet national and regional academic expectations.
