Rotary Club of Maloti to Donate Fire Truck to LMPS in Major Boost for Emergency Services

In a landmark gesture of international goodwill and commitment to public safety, the Rotary Club of Maloti will officially hand over a fire truck to the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) on Tuesday. The handover ceremony is expected to be graced by His Majesty King Letsie III, who serves as patron of the Rotary Club of Maloti.
Speaking to the press on Monday, Rotary Club President Mrs. Yande Sikazwe-Mothae emphasized that the donation represents a powerful collaboration between the Rotary Club of Maloti and the Rotary Club of Yokohama, Japan. The initiative seeks to enhance Lesotho’s emergency response capabilities and support communities in times of crisis.
“This fire truck is more than a vehicle—it is a symbol of international friendship and our shared commitment to creating safer communities,” said Mrs. Sikazwe-Mothae. “We are deeply grateful for our partnership with the Rotary Club of Yokohama, whose generosity made this possible.”
The fire truck, which will be stationed at the Maputsoe Police Station, is expected to significantly bolster emergency services in the northern part of Lesotho, where rapid response resources are often limited. With rising incidents of fires in both residential and commercial areas, local authorities have welcomed the support as timely and vital.
The official handover ceremony will draw high-profile attendees including King Letsie III, senior officials from LMPS, and representatives from civil society and humanitarian organizations. The event not only marks the formal transfer of the equipment but also reinforces a broader commitment to strengthening public safety infrastructure in Lesotho.
In her remarks, Mrs. Sikazwe-Mothae also noted that this initiative is part of a larger effort by Rotary to support emergency services and humanitarian causes throughout the region.
As communities across Lesotho continue to face challenges ranging from climate-related emergencies to infrastructure gaps, partnerships like this one serve as a beacon of hope. The fire truck donation stands as a testament to what can be achieved through global collaboration and a shared vision for safer, more resilient communities.
