President Duma Gideon Boko of Botswana to Undertake Historic Official Visit to Lesotho

His Excellency Duma Gideon Boko, President of the Republic of Botswana, will embark on an official working visit to the Kingdom of Lesotho from 15 to 18 July 2025. This landmark visit signals a renewed commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing strategic cooperation between the two nations.

President Boko will be accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes the Minister of International Relations, Honourable Dr. Phenyo Butale, the Minister of Water and Human Settlement, Honourable Omneetse Ramogapi, the Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Honourable Dr. Edwin Dikoloti, as well as other senior government officials.

During his visit, President Boko is scheduled to have an audience with His Majesty King Letsie III and will also pay a courtesy call on The Right Honourable Prime Minister Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane at the State House. These engagements aim to foster stronger diplomatic ties and explore new avenues for collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

A key highlight of the visit will be the signing of a Bi-National Commission (BNC) Agreement between Lesotho and Botswana. This agreement will elevate the existing Joint Commission on Technical and Economic Cooperation—initially signed on 20 May 2003—into a more comprehensive framework aimed at promoting joint development, infrastructure sharing, trade, and innovation.

On 16 July, President Boko will tour the proposed site of the Lesotho-Botswana Water Transfer Project in the Mafeteng District. The project is a major undertaking that will improve water security and support sustainable development goals for both countries.

The visit will culminate in President Boko’s attendance at the 62nd birthday celebration of His Majesty King Letsie III on 17 July in Teyateyaneng, Berea. This symbolic gesture underlines the strong cultural and diplomatic bond between the two Southern African nations.

President Boko’s visit is expected to mark a significant milestone in bilateral cooperation, paving the way for more integrated policy alignment and regional development initiatives between Botswana and Lesotho.
