Afri-Expo Textile Workers Set to Return as Company Secures Prospective Buyer in Durban

Hope is on the horizon for 200 factory workers at Afri-Expo Textile under Tikoe Industrial Estate, as the company announces promising progress in securing a new buyer based in Durban, South Africa. The development signals a potential end to the short-term contracts that left many workers uncertain about their future.

Speaking to the media, Afri-Expo Textile Production Manager Ms. Malerai Mosotho confirmed that negotiations with the Durban-based buyer are well underway. She expressed optimism that the outcome will allow the company to restore full operations and bring the affected workers back into employment.

“We are under promising negotiations with the buyer, and it is our fervent hope that these jobs will be regained and workers will come back to work,” Mosotho stated.

Although she refrained from disclosing all the details due to the sensitivity of ongoing talks, Ms. Mosotho sought to reassure workers and the broader community that the company is committed to stabilizing its operations and preserving local jobs. Her message offered a much-needed boost to the workers, many of whom had faced financial uncertainty following the company’s recent scale-down.

Afri-Expo Textile is one of the key employers in the Tikoe Industrial Estate and contributes significantly to Lesotho’s textile manufacturing sector. The announcement is expected to lift morale not only among factory workers but also within the local economy, which relies heavily on industrial employment and export-driven manufacturing.

As the company finalizes its deal, attention will be focused on how soon operations can resume and whether long-term employment contracts will be reinstated. For now, the workers remain hopeful that the Durban buyer will mark a turning point for Afri-Expo’s future and reaffirm the estate’s role in driving Lesotho’s economic recovery.
