Moeti Primary School Launches Crowdfunding Drive to Rescue Crumbling Classrooms

Faced with collapsing structures, cold and dusty classrooms, and unsafe sanitation facilities, Moeti Primary School in Ha Mosuoe has launched an urgent crowdfunding campaign in a bid to restore dignity and safety to its learning environment.

Located about 25 kilometers from the Qacha’s Nek District Education Office, the Catholic church-owned school is falling apart. Many of its buildings, including outdated rondavels, are in dire need of repair. Doors and windows are shattered, roofs are badly damaged, and children sit in classrooms filled with dust and exposed to freezing winds—conditions that worsen as the cold, windy season approaches.

The school currently serves learners from Grade 1 to 7, but enrollment has declined in recent years as families turn to better-maintained schools in neighboring communities. The lack of basic infrastructure has made it increasingly difficult for Moeti to provide even the most fundamental education.

Principal Molula Koele, who took over the reins in May, described the environment as completely unfit for learning. “The situation is unacceptable. The cold is unbearable, and the environment is not conducive for learning at all,” she said. “That’s why we’re pleading with everyone to help change it.”

Koele emphasized the toll the conditions are taking on the school’s youngest learners. “We are talking about fragile people. Imagine learning in a cold classroom and growing up with that coldness. It is not just uncomfortable—it’s harmful.”

The school’s crowdfunding initiative seeks to raise funds to repair roofs, replace broken windows and doors, build safe toilets, and create clean, dust-free classrooms. It also aims to invest in insulation and heating to help protect learners during Lesotho’s bitterly cold winters.

Despite the challenges, the school community remains hopeful. Local teachers and parents have rallied around the cause, sharing the campaign on social media and reaching out to former pupils and well-wishers near and far.

“Moeti Primary is not just a school—it is a lifeline for children in this community,” Koele said. “We cannot allow it to fall apart.”

As the fundraising effort gains momentum, Moeti’s story highlights a wider crisis affecting rural schools across Lesotho. Without urgent investment and support, many schools in remote areas risk being left behind.

To support Moeti Primary School’s efforts and learn more about the campaign, interested donors can visit the school’s crowdfunding page or contact the administration directly.

Every contribution, no matter the size, brings hope for a better, warmer, and safer learning space for the children of Ha Mosuoe.
