The Mofumahali oa Tlholo Roman Catholic Church marked Queen ’Masenate Mohato Seeiso’s 50th birthday with a special Holy Mass filled with prayer, reflection and national unity

The Mofumahali oa Tlholo Roman Catholic Church held a special Holy Mass on Tuesday afternoon to celebrate the 50th birthday of Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso. The service brought together congregants, government officials and members of the royal family in a shared moment of thanksgiving. The celebration focused on faith, service and the Queen’s life journey as she reached a major milestone. The Mass was led by Bishop John Joale Tlhomola, who guided the congregation through scripture and reflection. The event also highlighted national unity as Basotho from different backgrounds gathered to honour the Queen’s role in the Kingdom of Lesotho.
The Holy Mass included readings from 2 Peter 3:12 to 3:18 and Mark 12:13 to 12:17, setting a tone of reflection on faith, duty and wisdom. Bishop John Joale Tlhomola used the occasion to link the Queen’s 50th birthday to the biblical meaning of a jubilee. He described jubilee as a time of healing, reconciliation and new beginnings, drawing a parallel with the Queen’s life journey. He said reaching 50 years reflects God’s grace and faithfulness through seasons of joy, sorrow, challenge and success. His message emphasised that the Queen’s path has been shaped by dedication to faith and service to the nation and her family.
During his homily, Bishop Tlhomola reflected on the sacrifices made by the Queen in fulfilling her responsibilities within the royal household and her public duties. He described the past 50 years as a demonstration of abundant grace and steady commitment to service. He also prayed for continued wisdom, renewed mercy and strength for the years ahead. The Bishop extended wishes for guidance as she continues her role alongside King Letsie III in serving the nation. The message reinforced the importance of leadership rooted in faith, humility and responsibility, especially in moments of national celebration.
The Holy Mass formed part of broader celebrations marking the Queen’s golden jubilee, which brought together Basotho from across communities. The gathering reflected appreciation for her public service, personal faith and presence within the royal family. The event also showed the close connection between the church and national life in Lesotho, where religious ceremonies often carry cultural and civic meaning. Bishop Tlhomola’s leadership during the service added a spiritual depth to the celebration and encouraged reflection on continuity and hope. The occasion ended with a strong sense of gratitude and unity, marking the Queen’s milestone as both a personal achievement and a national moment of reflection.
