Lesotho Highlights the Impact of the ITEC Programme on Public Service Capacity

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr. Ts’eliso Mokhosi, has reaffirmed the Government of Lesotho’s strong support for the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme, emphasizing its role in enhancing public service delivery. He made these remarks during a joint event in Maseru on Saturday, which brought together ITEC Lesotho alumni and the India High Commissioner to South Africa and Lesotho.
Mr. Mokhosi noted that the ITEC programme equips public sector employees with critical skills that improve efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery. He highlighted that the knowledge gained through the programme supports capacity building, strengthens leadership, and promotes professional development across multiple sectors. According to the Minister, these skills directly contribute to improved services for citizens, reinforcing the Government’s commitment to high-quality public administration.
High Commissioner Kumar described ITEC as a flagship initiative of the Government of India. He emphasized that the programme embodies partnership, solidarity, and the sharing of India’s expertise with developing nations. The High Commissioner highlighted the long-standing collaboration between India and Lesotho through ITEC, noting that it reflects a mutual commitment to development and international cooperation.
He further encouraged programme beneficiaries to return to Lesotho and apply the skills and knowledge acquired to make a meaningful impact within their institutions, enhancing national development outcomes.
Speaking on behalf of the alumni, Mrs. ’Makamohelo Molatsane Mashea, who completed a Nursing Leadership and Management course in India, shared that the programme provided her with essential leadership and management skills. She expressed her intention to apply this knowledge to improve the quality of health services in Lesotho, demonstrating the practical benefits of ITEC training for local communities.
The ITEC programme, launched by the Government of India, provides capacity-building opportunities through professional training, scholarships, and technical cooperation. Its focus on human resource development and sustainable growth has enabled partner countries like Lesotho to strengthen public sector performance, foster leadership, and enhance overall service delivery.
Through these initiatives, Lesotho continues to benefit from international partnerships that support skill development, promote professional excellence, and contribute to the Kingdom’s long-term development goals.
