Belo Industrial Site Set to Begin Operations in Early 2026

Minister of Trade, Industry and Business Development, Mr. Mokhethi Shelile, has confirmed that the long-delayed Belo Industrial Site in Botha-Bothe will become operational early next year once electricity supply issues are resolved.
Speaking during Independence Day celebrations in Botha-Bothe, Mr. Shelile announced that the Ministry of Energy has committed to completing electricity connections by February 2026. He said the site has already attracted several investors who are ready to begin operations as soon as power is available.
“This place is strategically located, it is near Johannesburg and central to most destinations,” Mr. Shelile stated. “It has been a long time since the factories were built but not operational. The Minister of Energy has promised that the electricity issue will be fixed by February next year. Once that is done, we are ready, investors are waiting to start production immediately.”
The Minister added that the government is taking steps to ensure the industrial site supports not only business growth but also the welfare of workers. Plans are underway to build essential facilities such as preschools and a clinic within the industrial area to serve employees and their families.
The revitalization of the Belo Industrial Site is expected to create jobs, boost local economic activity, and strengthen Lesotho’s manufacturing base. Once operational, the site will position Botha-Bothe as a key industrial hub in the northern region and a vital link in cross-border trade with South Africa.
