Bokong Chalets Set to Reopen Under New Operator Mahlakapese Holdings

The Ministry of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture met with the Community Conservation Forum Executive to introduce the new private operator of Bokong Chalets, Mahlakapese Holdings. The meeting focused on presenting the operator’s layout plan for the revitalisation and management of the facility in close consultation with local communities.

Mahlakapese Holdings outlined its strategy to restore Bokong Chalets into a functional and sustainable tourism destination. The company detailed its approach to improving visitor experiences while ensuring that community interests remain central to the project. The presentation included job creation plans and opportunities for skill development aimed at empowering residents in nearby communities.

During the meeting, the Ministry stressed the importance of partnership between government, private investors, and communities to achieve meaningful progress in tourism development. Officials highlighted that collaboration will help ensure that Bokong and its surrounding areas benefit from economic growth generated through tourism.

The Executive of Mahlakapese Holdings raised several queries on tourism-related matters affecting the Bokong area. Ministry representatives provided clarity on these issues, and the operator expressed satisfaction with the responses received.

According to Mahlakapese Holdings, preparations are already underway, and operations at Bokong Chalets are expected to commence soon. The reopening is anticipated to boost local tourism, attract both domestic and international visitors, and stimulate business for nearby service providers.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote responsible tourism and create tangible benefits for communities. The partnership with Mahlakapese Holdings is seen as a model for sustainable development in Lesotho’s tourism sector, focusing on job creation, community inclusion, and environmental preservation.

With Bokong Chalets expected to resume operations shortly, the area is poised to regain its place as one of Lesotho’s key mountain attractions, contributing to the broader vision of positioning the country as a preferred eco-tourism destination.
