Lesotho Reaffirms Commitment to Global Environmental Diplomacy

The Kingdom of Lesotho strengthened its role in international environmental governance as His Excellency Ambassador Matete ‘Nena officially presented his credentials to Her Excellency Ms. Leticia Carvalho, Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA).

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed enhancing cooperation between Lesotho and the ISA, focusing on marine biodiversity and advancing the Sustainable Development Goal 14 targets on Life Below Water. They explored initiatives to support capacity-building and expand partnerships in climate change adaptation, sustainable agriculture, food security, and the Just Energy Transition through clean energy innovation.

Ambassador ‘Nena and Secretary-General Carvalho also highlighted Lesotho’s active participation as a Member of the ISA Council. They emphasized the Kingdom’s commitment to ensuring that deep-sea resources are managed responsibly, equitably, and guided by scientific integrity.

This engagement underscores Lesotho’s strategic approach to environmental diplomacy and its dedication to contributing to global sustainability efforts.
