Local Youth Launch Online Newspaper ‘The Saturday Times’ to Tackle Unemployment

In an effort to combat youth unemployment, a group of young entrepreneurs has launched an online newspaper titled The Saturday Times. The initiative comes at a crucial time, as the government, through the 2025/26 fiscal year budget, has prioritized reducing unemployment and urged both the public and private sectors to contribute to job creation.

The first issue of The Saturday Times was published three weeks ago, and according to its Director, Mr. Molefi Ralengau, the project aims to empower young people by providing a platform for their voices and aspirations. He emphasized that through collaboration and innovation, the youth can reshape the employment landscape and create new opportunities.

Speaking with the Agency on Thursday, Mr. Ralengau noted that their online publication fills a gap in the local media industry, which has largely remained traditional despite the gradual shift to digital platforms. By embracing modern technology and innovative reporting styles, The Saturday Times seeks to redefine journalism while providing employment and skills development for young writers, editors, and content creators.

As digital media continues to expand, this youth-led initiative presents a promising solution to both unemployment and the evolving news consumption trends. With a fresh approach and a strong commitment to youth empowerment, The Saturday Times could play a significant role in shaping the future of local journalism.
