Lesotho’s senior national team, Likuena (The Crocodiles), are gearing up for a challenging match against Rwanda’s team, The Wasps, in a crucial FIFA World Cup Group C game scheduled for Tuesday evening at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Head Coach Leslie Notsi has likened Rwanda to “wounded tigers” following their recent defeat to Benin, suggesting that they will be particularly motivated and aggressive.
During a press conference on Monday evening, Notsi acknowledged the difficult task ahead. “After their defeat against Benin, The Wasps will be like wounded tigers and are likely to make life difficult for us,” he remarked. “We are expecting them to come at us strongly, so we need to be resilient, maintain our shape, and stick to our tactical game plan.”
Despite the anticipated pressure from Rwanda, Notsi emphasized that Likuena will not succumb to unnecessary pressure. “We will give them the respect they deserve and adhere to our game plan,” he said. “However, we will not allow ourselves to be overwhelmed. Instead, we aim to absorb the pressure and counter-attack effectively.”
Likuena’s confidence is buoyed by their recent impressive performance in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where they defeated Zimbabwe 2-0 at Orlando Stadium, propelling them to the top of Group C. Veteran defender Rethabile Rasethuntša opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a header from a well-delivered Thabo Matšoele corner. The lead was extended in the 30th minute when Lehlohonolo Fothoane’s brilliant pass found Jane Thabantšo, who skillfully beat a defender and the goalkeeper to net Lesotho’s second goal.
This victory placed Likuena at the summit of Group C with five points after three games. Now, under the guidance of Coach Leslie Notsi, they turn their attention to the upcoming clash with Rwanda. The East African team, currently a point behind Lesotho, suffered their first defeat to Benin on Thursday. Meanwhile, Likuena and Nigeria remain the only unbeaten teams in Group C.
In another Group C match on Thursday, Nigeria and South Africa played to a one-all draw in Uyo. As Likuena prepares for their match against Rwanda, they aim to continue their unbeaten streak and solidify their lead in the group.
