Lifofane FC Awards Ceremony Turns Into Major Community Support Drive With Donations, Sponsorships and Future Stadium Talks

What was planned as a routine awards ceremony for Lifofane Football Club turned into a powerful show of community backing, financial support and long term development commitments. The event brought together players, officials, sponsors and government representatives who collectively transformed the evening into a milestone moment for the club. Instead of only celebrating performance on the field, the gathering became a platform for pledges that will shape the team’s future direction. By the end of the night, Lifofane FC had secured M12,500 in cash pledges alongside multiple material commitments from individuals and organisations. The atmosphere reflected strong belief in the club’s progress and its role in uniting the Botha-Bothe community.
One of the most significant announcements came from the Managing Director of TJ Group of Companies, Mr Tayob Jooma, who pledged to purchase a vehicle for the team. This commitment is expected to give Lifofane FC dedicated transport within the next three months, improving travel arrangements for matches and official engagements. Reliable transport has been a long standing challenge for many local clubs, and this donation is seen as a major step forward in professionalising the team’s operations. The announcement drew strong applause from attendees who recognised the practical impact of such support. It also highlighted the growing role of private sector involvement in local sports development.
Government participation also featured prominently during the ceremony. The Minister of Energy and Mining, Mr Lejone Mpotjoane, speaking through the Hololo Development Fund, pledged to provide tracksuits and jackets for the players. This support will ensure the team is properly equipped during matches and official trips, improving both presentation and morale. The minister also used the platform to reflect on the team’s progress, noting their rise from struggling to reach the top eight in previous seasons to finishing second in the Premier League. He described the achievement as the result of collective effort from players, management and supporters working together toward a shared goal.
Further commitments came from political leadership at constituency level. The Member of Parliament for Matlakeng Constituency No. 12 pledged to provide meals for the team during every away match in the upcoming season. This promise directly addresses a key logistical and welfare need, ensuring players are well supported during travel periods. Additional individuals present at the ceremony also contributed cash donations and offered various forms of assistance to strengthen the club’s operations. These combined efforts reflected a growing recognition of the importance of local football as a community asset that requires sustained investment.
Corporate sponsorship also played a central role in the evening’s proceedings. Representing LNIG Hollard, the club’s main sponsor, Ms. Liepollo Tsekoa expressed satisfaction with the team’s development over recent years. She noted that the company prioritises community investment and sees football as a key area of engagement. She highlighted that Lifofane FC had met expectations by finishing second in the league after promising strong performance goals at the start of the season. She also commended both the players and management for their discipline, consistency and commitment to improvement.
Club leadership used the occasion to acknowledge both progress and ongoing challenges. Chairperson Mr Lets’olo Maliehe thanked all supporters who have remained committed to the team through difficult periods. He stated that while the club continues to face operational challenges, management is focused on addressing them in a structured way. He also clarified that Lifofane FC had not been implicated in any match fixing investigations that affected other clubs during the season. His remarks reinforced the club’s focus on integrity and long term stability as it continues to grow.
Individual recognition was also a major highlight of the evening, with midfielder and striker Mr Thato Moabi emerging as one of the biggest winners. He collected three awards including Top Goal Scorer, Best Midfielder and Player of the Season, along with three trophies, gifts and cheques totaling M9,000. He also expressed emotional gratitude to his teammates and supporters, stating that his achievements were only possible through collective effort. He will additionally receive a share of the M12,500 collected during the ceremony and an overnight stay at Moathameleng Resort, further celebrating his standout season performance.
Other players also received recognition for their contributions throughout the season. Itumeleng Leche was awarded both Fair Player of the Season and Defender of the Season, while Malefane Morake claimed the Top Goal Scorer Award. Lilao Mokotjo was named Young Player of the Season, and Mr Nkosana Mabena received the Leadership Award for his influence within the squad. Each award included a M2,000 cash prize, a trophy and a sponsorship package from LNIG Hollard, reinforcing the importance of performance incentives in driving team success.
The ceremony also carried forward looking ambitions for Lifofane FC. Minister Mpotjoane revealed that discussions are underway with the Ministry of Local Government to secure land for a future stadium in the district. This development, if realised, would mark a major step in infrastructure growth for football in Botha-Bothe and provide a permanent home for the club. He further expressed confidence that the team is building toward even greater success, stating expectations for a stronger title challenge in the 2026 to 2027 season. His remarks reflected a broader vision of sustained growth supported by both government and private stakeholders.
The evening ended with a strong sense of unity and shared purpose among all attendees. Lifofane FC not only celebrated a successful season but also secured meaningful commitments that will support its future development. The combination of financial pledges, equipment support, transport promises and infrastructure discussions reflects a growing ecosystem around the club. With strong backing from sponsors, government officials and the community, Lifofane FC is positioned to build on its recent success. The ceremony demonstrated how sport can become a platform for development, cooperation and long term investment in local talent and community pride.
