LTDC and Limkokwing University Launch Content Creator Workshop to Boost Tourism Storytelling in Qacha’s Nek

The Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC), in partnership with Limkokwing University of Creative Technology through its Faculty of Communication, Media and Broadcasting, has launched a two-day capacity-building workshop aimed at developing aspiring content creators in Qacha’s Nek. The programme began on Monday and brings together 18 selected participants who showed strong potential in digital storytelling and media production. The initiative forms part of the Re Bonts’e Lesotho programme and is sponsored in the district by Metropolitan Lesotho. It focuses on empowering Basotho youth to take an active role in shaping how Lesotho is represented online. The workshop reflects a growing push to strengthen local voices in tourism promotion and digital media.

The first day of training focused on the fundamentals of content creation and the role it plays in modern tourism marketing. Participants were introduced to the definition of content creation and the key traits that distinguish successful creators in the digital space. Training sessions also covered practical skills in photography, videography, and editing techniques used to produce engaging visual stories. The facilitators emphasized the importance of storytelling that is clear, authentic, and visually appealing. Learners were encouraged to think critically about how tourism content can influence perception and attract interest to local destinations.

A major focus of the workshop is the development of skills that allow participants to craft compelling tourism narratives. The training highlights how creators can use smartphones and basic equipment to produce high quality content that showcases natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and community life. Practical exercises guide participants on framing shots, capturing movement, and editing footage to create professional results. These skills are essential for promoting tourism in a way that is accessible and cost effective. The programme also encourages creativity and consistency in producing content that reflects local identity and pride.

Selection for the workshop was highly competitive, with participants required to submit videos demonstrating their interest, enthusiasm, and potential in content creation. This process ensured that those selected had a genuine passion for storytelling and a willingness to develop their skills further. The 18 participants chosen represent a group of emerging digital creators with the ability to influence how Lesotho is presented on online platforms. The workshop provides them with structured guidance and mentorship from experienced professionals in media and tourism communication. It also creates a foundation for long term growth in the digital creative industry.

LTDC Head of Strategic Marketing, Mr. Phomolo Lebotsa, emphasized the importance of empowering Basotho to tell their own stories. He explained that the goal of the initiative is to reposition Lesotho’s online image through authentic and positive narratives created by local voices. He highlighted that tourism content should reflect the country’s natural beauty, including rivers, mountains, cultural cuisine, and traditional attire. According to him, these elements are central to building a strong and attractive national identity in the digital space. He also noted that while LTDC leads tourism promotion under the Ministry of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture, partnerships remain essential for sustainable impact.

The workshop is expected to conclude on Tuesday, with participants gaining practical skills that they can apply immediately in content creation projects. The collaboration between LTDC, Limkokwing University, and Metropolitan Lesotho demonstrates a shared commitment to youth empowerment and tourism development. It also highlights the importance of equipping young people with digital skills that align with global media trends. By investing in local content creators, the initiative aims to strengthen Lesotho’s visibility in international tourism markets. In conclusion, the workshop stands as a meaningful step toward building a new generation of storytellers who will shape how Lesotho is seen and experienced across digital platforms.
