On November 20, 2025, the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Honourable Matjato Moteane, officially launched the construction of a 32km gravel road linking Pitseng and Ha-Koasa Matlameng in Leribe. The project, valued at M71 million, will involve re-excavation of side drains, installation of road signs, gravelling, and other essential works. Completion is expected within eight months.
The launch also showcased the four construction companies awarded contracts for the project, reflecting a competitive and transparent bidding process.
Honourable Moteane stated that the Ministry is implementing the directive of the Right Honourable Prime Minister to intensify infrastructure development in the lead-up to the 2027 elections. He emphasised that improved road access is crucial for supporting local communities and enhancing service delivery across the region.
The project aims to facilitate better transport connectivity, reduce travel time, and improve access to essential services for residents of Leribe. It also represents a strategic effort to boost local economic activity by creating job opportunities and enabling smoother movement of goods and people.
By investing in road infrastructure, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport seeks to strengthen national development, support regional growth, and ensure communities benefit from sustainable and reliable transport networks.
