Lesotho and World Bank Sign M840 Million Financing Deals to Boost Energy, Skills and Nutrition

The Government of Lesotho has entered a major development financing agreement with the World Bank to support national growth priorities through a package worth more than M841 million. The signing took place on Thursday and was led by Minister of Finance and Development Planning Dr Retšelisitsoe Matlanyane on behalf of the government. The agreements were formalised with World Bank Representative Dinara Djoldosheva, marking a renewed phase of cooperation between Lesotho and the global financial institution. The funding is directed at key sectors that directly affect economic development and social wellbeing. These include energy access, skills development and nutrition improvement. The financing package is divided into three major projects that target specific national needs. The second is the Lesotho Skills Acceleration Project, which aims to strengthen workforce development and improve employability among young people and job seekers. Together, these projects are designed to reinforce long term development goals and improve living standards across multiple sectors.

The energy component of the agreement is expected to play a key role in supporting economic activity and infrastructure development.
