Digital Innovators Summit 2026 Launch Event Highlights Lesotho’s Digital Transformation Ambitions

The 3rd Edition of the Digital Innovators Summit (DIS2026) High-Level Launch Event marked an important step in Lesotho’s journey toward a more digitally connected and innovative future. Organised by SkyAlpha HD, the event brought together government leaders, development partners, diplomats and innovation stakeholders at the American Corner in Maseru. Under the theme “Driving Digital Transformation and Innovation for National Development,” the gathering provided a platform for meaningful discussions on how technology can support economic growth, strengthen governance and improve public service delivery. The launch event reflected a growing commitment among key stakeholders to harness digital solutions as tools for national development. Among the notable contributors was the Minister of Natural Resources, Hon. Mohlomi Moleko, who joined the discussion virtually. According to Ramashamole, the ability to provide clear and accurate context when interacting with AI systems is becoming increasingly important for obtaining meaningful and reliable results. Ramashamole further expanded on the concept of digital identification, explaining that it extends beyond individuals to include entities that require formal recognition within digital systems. The British High Commissioner to Lesotho, H.E. Ms Martine Sobey, offered important perspectives on the relationship between governance, trust and technology. Sobey called for a digital transformation process that is inclusive and ensures that all members of society benefit from technological progress. She cautioned that digitisation efforts are unlikely to succeed if they are implemented without proper standards and frameworks. Her remarks highlighted the importance of designing technology solutions that are practical, effective and suited to the specific needs of communities and institutions.

Another significant point raised by the British High Commissioner was the need to preserve historical records through digitisation. She stressed that converting archives and important records into digital formats can help safeguard valuable knowledge for future generations. The preservation of historical information is increasingly becoming a priority as governments and institutions seek to protect documents from physical deterioration and loss. Digitisation not only enhances accessibility but also ensures that important cultural and historical information remains available for research, education and policymaking.
