King Letsie III Hosts State Banquet Honouring President Duma Boko of Botswana

Maseru, Lesotho – In a display of regional unity and warm diplomacy, His Majesty King Letsie III hosted a grand State Banquet last evening in honour of President Duma Boko of Botswana. The prestigious event took place at the elegant Avani Maseru, bringing together key dignitaries and reaffirming the close-knit relationship between the two Southern African nations.

During his toast, King Letsie III highlighted the deep-rooted historical ties between Lesotho and Botswana. He fondly recalled the legacy of BOLESWA (Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland) university games, which fostered camaraderie and lifelong friendships among the youth of the region. Emphasising the importance of continued unity and collaboration, the King called for peace and shared prosperity in Southern Africa, stating that these values are essential for the region’s growth and stability.

President Duma Boko responded with heartfelt gratitude, expressing his admiration for the warm reception and the enduring bond between Basotho and Batswana. He reflected on the shared cultural heritage, strong bilateral ties, and mutual respect that underpin the relationship between the two countries. Adding a light-hearted touch to his speech, President Boko remarked on the career journey of Lesotho’s Prime Minister, saying, “We trained him well to return and build Lesotho,” referring to Prime Minister Matekane’s previous professional engagements in Botswana.

The evening also featured an official welcome from The Right Honourable Prime Minister Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane, who extended greetings on behalf of the Government of Lesotho. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of continued collaboration between the two countries in various areas including trade, education, and governance.
