South African gospel group Omega Circle has unveiled their latest EP, “Worship Songs I Could Have Sang With My Mother,” a deeply personal collection of worship music that reflects on loss, faith, and enduring love.
The EP was inspired by the songwriter’s reflection on his mother’s passing, a loss that occurred 20 years ago. “Losing a mother is one of the most difficult experiences a person can face,” he shares. “It can shake your trust in the world and the people around you. Yet in that emptiness, I found myself turning to God and trusting Him to guide me through.”
Central to the project is the theme of trust, captured in the recurring phrase “Ndithembe kuwe,” meaning “I trust in You.” These words resonate throughout the EP, providing a spiritual anchor for listeners and reflecting the journey of faith that inspired the songs.
The idea for the EP came unexpectedly. One February morning, feeling uninspired and creatively lost, the songwriter was reminded that it had been 20 years since his mother passed away. That moment became the spark for writing songs he imagines he and his mother would have sung together — perhaps even with the grandchildren she never met.
Most of the tracks came during quiet, reflective moments, while others arrived in sudden bursts of inspiration. Every song on the EP was written specifically for this project, with the exception of a reimagined version of Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika, which opens the EP and sets the tone for the reflective worship experience.
“This EP is a tribute to the woman who taught me how to love God and how to love myself,” the group explains. “Worship music becomes a bridge that reconnects us to the warmth, love, and faith we can no longer experience in the physical world.”
“Worship Songs I Could Have Sang With My Mother” invites listeners into a space of reflection, worship, and healing, transforming grief into praise and memory into song.
The EP is available now on all major streaming platforms:
