Careers Expo Opens Doors for Learners to Shape Their Futures and Drive National Development

The 16th Annual Standard Lesotho Bank Careers Expo was held at Polihali village in Mokhotlong, providing learners with guidance, inspiration and practical opportunities to plan their futures. The event gathered students from local high schools, educators, motivational speakers and industry professionals for an interactive experience aimed at career exploration and personal growth. Princess Senate Mohato Seeiso addressed the learners, emphasizing that education extends beyond examinations and should help them align talents, interests and values with meaningful careers. She highlighted that the expo theme, “The Waiting Is Over, Come Down and Conquer,” encouraged youth to overcome limitations and pursue opportunities that reflect the needs of the 21st-century economy. The event underscored the importance of informed career choices in shaping both personal futures and the overall development of Lesotho.

Princess Seeiso encouraged learners to use the expo as a platform to discover who they are and the possibilities available to them, stressing that purposeful knowledge and dedication are key to achieving success. She also appealed to teachers to continue guiding students, nurturing curiosity, discipline and confidence to help them excel. The Princess reminded learners that their career decisions should reflect not only personal growth but also contribution to the national development of Lesotho. She called on students to take full advantage of the opportunities presented at the expo, saying that the insights gained could inspire them to achieve greater heights. Her words emphasized that careers should align with both individual interests and the country’s economic priorities.

Standard Lesotho Bank Chief Executive, Samuel Seboka, reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to supporting education initiatives, noting that over M1 million is spent annually to assist schools and vulnerable students. He urged learners to work hard in their studies to achieve their goals and contribute to the country’s growth. Motivational speakers from the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority and tertiary institutions from Lesotho and South Africa reinforced messages of discipline, consistency and self-improvement. Prof. Makoala Marake from the National University of Lesotho encouraged students to adopt a culture of success by improving daily habits and going the extra mile in their studies. Prof. Asanda Mditswa from the University of KwaZulu-Natal highlighted the importance of maintaining healthy living and urged students to have high ambitions, symbolically aiming to “fly like eagles” in all their endeavors.

Learners expressed appreciation for the expo, noting that it provided valuable information to help them make informed career decisions. The event allowed students to rotate among stalls representing various professions and higher learning institutions, facilitating direct engagement and networking with industry professionals. They gained exposure to career options, educational pathways and practical guidance that can shape their future choices. The interactive format encouraged active participation, critical thinking and hands-on learning. This approach ensured that learners left with actionable insights and clarity about their next steps.

The five-day expo, organized by Mind Liberation Psychology Consultancy, aims to equip students with knowledge and skills for informed career decisions. Dr. Ts’epang Majara, Founder and CEO of the consultancy, said the purpose was to create an environment where learners can access comprehensive career information and guidance. Similar expos are planned for other districts including Butha Buthe, Berea, Mafeteng and Maseru, extending opportunities for high school students across the country. By providing exposure, mentorship and practical resources, the initiative strengthens the link between education and career development. The event demonstrated how strategic career guidance can empower youth to build meaningful futures and contribute to national progress.
