BEDCO Empowers Farmers with Business Plan Development Training in Partnership with World Vision International Lesotho and SADP II

BEDCO, in collaboration with World Vision International Lesotho and SADP II, successfully conducted a four-day Business Plan Development Training from January 26 to 29, 2026. The program aimed to equip farmers with the skills needed to develop bankable business plans and strengthen their understanding of core business management principles. A total of 30 beneficiaries from Berea, Maseru, and Mafeteng participated, with each farmer association represented by two participants. The initiative reflects a commitment to building capacity within local communities and promoting sustainable economic growth.
The training focused on practical skills essential for transforming agricultural initiatives into viable business ventures. Participants learned how to structure comprehensive business plans, conduct market analysis, and forecast financial outcomes. The program also provided guidance on operational planning, risk management, and effective marketing strategies. By combining theoretical knowledge with interactive sessions, the training ensured that farmers could immediately apply what they learned to their respective associations. The hands-on approach fostered confidence and prepared participants to present compelling business proposals to financial institutions and potential investors.
Throughout the four days, trainers emphasized the importance of sustainability and value addition in agricultural enterprises. Farmers were encouraged to explore innovative approaches to increase productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and diversify income streams. Discussions also highlighted the significance of record-keeping, cost management, and efficient resource allocation for long-term business success. By integrating these concepts into practical exercises, participants gained a clear understanding of how to make their operations financially and environmentally sustainable.
The collaboration between BEDCO, World Vision International Lesotho, and SADP II demonstrates the impact of joint efforts in community development. By providing training, mentorship, and ongoing support, these organisations are empowering farmers to move from subsistence activities to structured, profitable businesses. The program also fostered networking opportunities among participants, enabling knowledge sharing and collaboration across regions. Such initiatives strengthen local economies, improve livelihoods, and create pathways for inclusive growth.
By the end of the program, participants expressed confidence in their ability to develop bankable business plans and implement effective business strategies. The training reinforced the message that access to knowledge, skills, and resources is critical for achieving sustainable growth in the agricultural sector. Through programs like this, BEDCO and its partners continue to empower communities, transforming local farmers into entrepreneurs capable of driving economic development and creating lasting impact.
