Vodacom Lesotho Empowers Top Scholars with Prestigious Bursaries and Graduation Awards

Vodacom Lesotho Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mohale Ralebitso, on Wednesday officially sent off six new recipients of the Vodacom Foundation Bursary Programme and presented awards to those who completed their studies under the initiative. The ceremony highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting education and empowering young Mosotho through higher learning opportunities.

The new cohort of bursary recipients includes scholars with disabilities, who will pursue undergraduate studies at South African universities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), and Disability Studies. Speaking at the event, Mr. Ralebitso congratulated the recipients, noting that they were among the top five percent of applicants shortlisted for the bursary. He emphasised that these fields of study are critical for equipping graduates with skills needed to thrive in the competitive global economy and contribute to Lesotho’s economic development.

Mr. Ralebitso also reminded beneficiaries that the bursary does not require repayment. However, he encouraged them to “lift others” by sharing knowledge, supporting their communities, and contributing to national growth. He stressed the importance of creating a positive reputation for Lesotho and commended Vodacom customers for their support, noting that their contributions directly benefit the next generation of leaders.

Vodacom Lesotho Foundation Senior Specialist, Mrs. Pinki Mokoena, explained that the programme targets every Mosotho who has passed the Lesotho General Certificate of Secondary Education (LGCSE), qualifies for the specified courses, and is considered vulnerable. She highlighted that the initiative is inclusive, offering opportunities to students from diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities.

The programme received 180 applications, from which only six scholars were selected. The successful candidates come from Leribe, Maseru, and Berea districts. This selective process underscores the programme’s competitiveness and the high calibre of students chosen to benefit from the bursary.

Through initiatives like the Vodacom Foundation Bursary Programme, Vodacom Lesotho continues to invest in education and skills development, fostering a generation of professionals equipped to drive innovation and economic growth in the country.
