Lesotho Health and Horticulture Compact Officially Terminated

The Lesotho Health and Horticulture Compact has been officially terminated following a decision by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), MCA-Lesotho II has announced. On November 19th, the MCC formally notified the Government of Lesotho of the Compact’s termination, marking the end of a flagship development programme aimed at supporting the health and horticulture sectors.

MCA-Lesotho II confirmed that despite the termination, the organisation will remain operational during a transition period, with a planned official closure on April 18. The institution highlighted the potential impact of ending the Compact on communities and sectors that were set to benefit but reassured the public that efforts are underway to maintain critical programme activities.

“MCA-Lesotho II and the Government of Lesotho are working hard to ensure that key programme activities continue under government funding,” the organisation stated. Regular updates will be provided during the transition period as processes are implemented to manage the winding down of operations and safeguard priority interventions.

The organisation also acknowledged and thanked its partners and stakeholders for their support throughout the programme’s duration.

The Lesotho Health and Horticulture Compact was established to strengthen health systems and enhance agricultural productivity. The initiative aimed to drive inclusive economic growth and improve livelihoods, particularly in communities directly linked to health services and horticultural development. While the Compact has ended, ongoing government efforts are expected to sustain key interventions and continue supporting these critical sectors.
