World Diabetes Day Commemoration Highlights Workplace Health Priorities

The Ministry of Health marked World Diabetes Day on November 28, 2025 at the Berea District Health Management Team. The event focused on diabetes and well-being with attention on diabetes in the workplace. The goal was to strengthen awareness and support for people living with the condition.

Dr Llang Maama explained that the day aimed to raise awareness about diabetes. She noted that the global day is observed on 14 November each year. This year’s event took place later due to unforeseen circumstances. She urged communities to stay informed about prevention and management.

Honourable Mokhothu Makhalanyane stated that diabetes must be addressed in the workplace. He said that early action will reduce absenteeism among employees. He added that the Government of Lesotho remains committed to reducing the impact of diabetes through better policies and stronger services.

The President of the Diabetes Association of Lesotho, Mr Motsamai Kokoto, called for fair treatment of all people living with diabetes. He urged patients to follow their medication plans. He also appealed for improved treatment and care across all healthcare facilities to support better outcomes.

Mr Bulara Letsie, Chairperson of the Non Communicable Diseases and Injuries Coordination, said individuals must know their blood sugar levels. He thanked all partners who continue to support national efforts to reduce the burden of diabetes.

A young person living with diabetes, Thato Lenkoane, shared her experience. She has lived with the illness since childhood. She said a healthy life is possible when you follow medical advice. She encouraged people to join support organisations to gain strength and acceptance.

The commemoration highlighted the need for early testing, better care and stronger workplace support. It also showed the value of shared experiences in improving understanding and reducing stigma.
