Maseru Youth Games Officially Opened by Minister Motlatsi Maqelepo with Arrival of the Queen’s Baton

The Minister of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture, Honourable Motlatsi Maqelepo, officially opened the Maseru Youth Games during a vibrant ceremony that united young athletes from across Lesotho. The event, held in the capital, celebrated sportsmanship, unity, and national pride while reinforcing the country’s commitment to youth development through sports.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the arrival of the Queen’s Baton, an integral part of the international Queen’s Baton Relay, which precedes the Commonwealth Games. The Baton carries a message from His Majesty King Charles III, Head of the Commonwealth, and is traveling through all member countries and territories in the lead-up to the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Minister Maqelepo received the Queen’s Baton from Commonwealth gold medalist Mr. Thabiso Moqhali.
