Lesotho Minister of Sports, Tourism, Arts and Culture Explores Virtual Reality Tourism Innovations

On 23 January 2026, the Minister of Sports, Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Motlatsi Maqelepo, visited the Sebopi Unipod to experience Lesotho’s scenic tourist attractions through immersive Virtual Reality (VR) technology. The visit highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to embracing innovation as a tool for tourism development and creative industry growth.
During the tour, Minister Maqelepo engaged with the VR exhibits, which showcased Lesotho’s natural landscapes, cultural heritage sites, and adventure tourism opportunities. The technology offers an interactive way for potential visitors to explore the country’s attractions, enhancing Lesotho’s visibility in the global tourism market.
The Minister also met with Dr. Jacqueline Olweya, UNDP Resident Representative, to discuss potential collaborations between the Ministry and UNDP. Both parties emphasized the importance of innovation in promoting tourism, supporting creative industries, and leveraging digital solutions to drive economic growth.
Minister Maqelepo stressed that integrating technology into tourism marketing and creative sector initiatives can attract new audiences, stimulate investment, and provide immersive experiences for domestic and international visitors.
