HRH Princess Senate Mohato Seeiso’s Shoeshoe ea Moshoeshoe Initiative Continues with Traditional Games Tour at Pitseng High School

HRH Princess Senate Mohato Seeiso has once again demonstrated her deep commitment to preserving Basotho culture and uplifting youth through her widely celebrated initiative, Shoeshoe ea Moshoeshoe. On the latest stop of her cultural campaign, the Princess brought the vibrant Traditional Games Tour to Pitseng High School, much to the excitement of students, teachers, and community leaders alike.

The Traditional Games Tour, a unique component of the Shoeshoe ea Moshoeshoe Initiative, is dedicated to reviving indigenous Basotho games, promoting cultural pride, and encouraging youth participation in heritage activities. Pitseng High School became a lively cultural hub as students dressed in colourful seshoeshoe attire participated in games like morabaraba, diketo, and mashonisa, each rooted deeply in Basotho traditions.

Speaking at the event, HRH Princess Senate emphasized the importance of cultural education in youth development. “Our heritage is not only found in books or museums,” she said. “It lives in the songs we sing, the games we play, and the clothes we wear. By passing on these traditions, we give our youth a strong sense of identity and belonging.”

Teachers at Pitseng High School praised the initiative for its educational value and its ability to unite students in celebration of their roots. “It’s a powerful reminder that our culture is alive and relevant,” said Mrs. Mpho Sehlabaka, the school’s principal. “The Princess’s presence is a great inspiration to our learners.”

The Traditional Games Tour is also aligned with the Princess’s broader vision for youth empowerment and cultural sustainability. By incorporating fun and engaging activities, the initiative serves as both an educational tool and a recreational outlet, creating a balanced and memorable learning experience.

Community elders who attended the event were deeply moved by the initiative, noting that many of the traditional games had not been played publicly in decades. Their presence also added an intergenerational dimension, allowing students to learn directly from those who have carried these traditions for years.

With the success of the Pitseng High School visit, the Shoeshoe ea Moshoeshoe initiative continues to grow in popularity and impact. Future tours are planned across the country, aiming to reach more schools and rekindle the spirit of Basotho cultural pride in younger generations.

HRH Princess Senate’s dedication to cultural revival through this initiative not only honours the legacy of King Moshoeshoe I but also serves as a beacon for youth to embrace and celebrate their identity in a rapidly changing world.
