Pat and Rex Soul Stories: Lesotho’s Rising Publishing House Championing Local Writers

In the heart of Lesotho’s literary revival, Pat and Rex Soul Stories is emerging as a transformative force dedicated to nurturing and empowering homegrown talent. The publishing house, founded with a deep passion for storytelling and community impact, is quickly establishing itself as a go-to platform for aspiring writers eager to tell their stories on their own terms.
Co-founded by Mathe Masupha, who also serves as the company’s creative director, Pat and Rex Soul Stories offers a full suite of publishing services tailored for self-publishing authors. From ghostwriting and typesetting to ISBN acquisition, editing, and book launch coordination, the company provides a holistic approach to help writers bring their manuscripts to life.
In an interview with theReporter, Masupha shared that the company’s core mission is rooted in building personal, trusting relationships with clients. “We’re not just offering services—we’re building a community of storytellers who feel seen, supported, and empowered,” she said.
That community-centered approach has not gone unnoticed. In 2024, Pat and Rex Soul Stories was honoured with a Community Champion Award, a recognition of its growing impact in Lesotho’s creative and literary spaces.
Masupha highlighted the importance of making publishing accessible, noting that their pricing structure is carefully tailored to reflect the length and complexity of each manuscript. She also acknowledged the initial challenges of launching a new publishing company, including educating the public about the value of self-publishing. However, she emphasized that transparency, trust, and client confidentiality—backed by signed Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs)—are key pillars of their business.
A strong advocate for self-publishing, Masupha believes that traditional publishing models often limit writers’ creative and financial control. “Self-publishing gives authors full ownership of their work and how it’s distributed. It’s not just about publishing a book—it’s about reclaiming your voice,” she said.
Beyond the written word, Pat and Rex Soul Stories goes the extra mile by helping authors organise meaningful book launches that connect them with their readers. These events are carefully crafted to elevate local literature and build momentum for new voices in Lesotho’s literary world.
With more than 13 years of experience in youth engagement and sustainable development, Masupha brings a unique and dynamic perspective to publishing. Her broader vision is to use the power of stories to inspire, uplift, and transform communities across Lesotho and beyond.
For aspiring writers, Masupha offers simple but powerful advice: “Start now. Read widely and research constantly to sharpen your writing. Create stories that will echo for generations.”
As Pat and Rex Soul Stories continues to grow, it is not only changing how books are published in Lesotho—it’s also helping shape a new narrative of empowerment, creativity, and cultural pride.
