PS Kanono Ramashamole Outlines ICT Priorities During Diplomatic Consultations

The Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI), Mr Kanono Ramashamole, recently took part in a high-level diplomatic consultation meeting with heads of foreign missions. The event served as a platform for strategic dialogue between the government and the international community on matters of technological advancement and innovation.

In his presentation, Mr Ramashamole outlined the Ministry’s current priorities, with a strong focus on the development of ICT infrastructure and the promotion of science and innovation as key drivers of economic transformation. He emphasised the government’s commitment to building a digitally inclusive society, positioning ICT as a backbone of national development.

Mr Ramashamole highlighted major projects underway, including the expansion of broadband access in underserved areas, the establishment of innovation hubs, and the strengthening of digital literacy programmes. These initiatives are aimed at bridging the digital divide, empowering youth, and creating a vibrant tech-driven economy.

He also called on the diplomatic missions to explore partnerships that could support these goals. “Our engagements with the international community are crucial in identifying strategic areas for collaboration. Whether through technical expertise, capacity building, or investment in infrastructure, diplomatic missions can play a vital role in accelerating our technological growth,” Mr Ramashamole stated.

The Principal Secretary noted that the Ministry is keen on establishing cooperative frameworks that align with global best practices, especially in areas such as data protection, artificial intelligence, and e-governance. He encouraged missions to support knowledge exchange programmes and research collaborations between their countries and local institutions.

The consultations were well received by participants, who acknowledged the importance of aligning diplomatic efforts with national development strategies. Many expressed interest in supporting the Ministry’s initiatives through bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Mr Ramashamole’s presentation underscored the need for strong international partnerships to realise the full potential of ICT as a catalyst for sustainable development.
