Hon. Motlatsi Maqelepo Leads Tourism Tour to Spotlight Lesotho’s Natural and Cultural Treasures

Honourable Motlatsi Maqelepo, alongside Principal Secretary Mrs. Mantiti Khabo and a delegation of officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture, Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC), and private sector representatives, embarked on a vibrant and purposeful tour to explore the country’s tourism gems. The goal of the mission was clear: to evaluate, elevate, and strategically package Lesotho’s diverse attractions for the global market.
The tour aimed to provide key stakeholders with firsthand experience of the breathtaking landscapes, historic landmarks, and vibrant cultural sites that make Lesotho unique. From the sweeping highlands and dramatic mountain passes to centuries-old traditions and artistic expressions, the team immersed themselves in the depth and richness of what the Kingdom has to offer.
Hon. Maqelepo emphasized that the development of the tourism sector is a cornerstone of national economic growth, job creation, and cultural preservation. He noted that tapping into the potential of tourism will not only boost Lesotho’s image internationally but also empower local communities and small businesses that are rooted in heritage and hospitality.
“This tour is more than an assessment—it is a step towards repositioning Lesotho as a must-visit destination in Africa,” Maqelepo stated. “We are here to ensure that our tourism sites are ready to welcome the world and reflect the true spirit of Basotho identity and excellence.”
Principal Secretary Khabo reiterated the importance of public-private collaboration in building a resilient tourism industry. She highlighted that the insights gathered from the tour would inform policies and marketing strategies aimed at promoting domestic and international tourism.
The presence of stakeholders from both government and the private sector signifies a united commitment to revitalizing the industry, which was heavily impacted by the global pandemic. With renewed energy, the Ministry and LTDC are working to enhance infrastructure, support tourism entrepreneurs, and promote Lesotho’s hidden gems through modern storytelling and sustainable tourism models.
As Lesotho continues to unlock its tourism potential, the tour led by Hon. Maqelepo marks a pivotal moment in transforming the country’s scenic beauty and cultural richness into powerful economic assets that will attract global travelers and celebrate Basotho pride.
